FSSAI regulates and supervises the functioning of food businesses in India, to monitor and promote public health. It is mandatory for all food business operators, distributors, retailers and storage houses to get an FSSAI license
FSSAI has been known to lay down science-based standards for food products and oversees the conditions of manufacturing, storing and warehousing, distribution, developing sanitary standards and promoting awareness among consumers.
Standards framed by FSSAI are prescribed under Food Safety and Standards (Food Product Standards and Food Additives) Regulation, 2011, Food Safety and Standards (Packaging and Labelling) Regulation, 2011 and Food Safety and Standards (Contaminants, Toxins and Residues) Regulations, 2011.

The Factories Act, is a social legislation which has been enacted for occupational safety, health and welfare of workers at work places. This legislation is being enforced by technical officers i.e. Inspectors of Factories, Dy. Chief Inspectors of Factories who work under the control of the Chief Inspector of Factories and overall control of the Labour Commissioner, Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi

The testing done across these laboratories include chemical analysis, microbiological analysis, pesticide residue, and aflatoxin analysis on whole spices, ground spices, ghee, butter, vegetable oils, mustard oil, honey, foodgrains (wheat), wheat products (atta, suji, and maida), gram flour, soybean seed, bengal gram, ginger, oil cake, essential oil, oils and fats, animal casings, meat and food products.
